The name itself reveals already the philosophy which has inspired Serena and Bruno Cibischino, the two brothers who are the mind and heart of niù since 1999.
The Cibischino siblings’ adventure started in Turin and later moved to Udine, where niù was born.
Here, Serena met Ornella, a native of Friuli, who became the head of the product development team and her fellow adventurer over the past 12 years.
By coincidence the word for nest in Friulian dialect is pronounced “niù” (i.e., ‘new’) … perhaps it’s not a coincidence though.
NUOVO means new in Italy;
NEW in the rest of the world;
(N)UOVO means egg in Italy; a perfect symbol of something about to be born;
A NEST (niù in Friulian dialect) to fly from…
The nest is an important place from where to take off in search for creative nourishment and it is also the place where to return with supplies full of inspirations.
Each collection recalls and reflects the experience of a journey; it is a meeting and the exchange point between the niù style and the landscapes, colours, perfumes and traditions of magical places. And it all translates into bold combinations – printed cottons and silks, ethnic wools and jacquards. Mixtures of yarns which also represent the mixtures of stories that weave together to generate an all-Italian-made total look.
Among many journeys, the ones the niù team cherish the most are those made to Africa, a multifaceted fundamental point that inspired Serena to develop a project in promoting the outstanding African talents and to allow all those who have become niù family friends to build their own “nest” through their working experience.
niù is today a solid company, a family of 21 persons, a harmonious group who left the nest on strong wings. There’s no fear of flying for Serena Cibischino and her team.
